The four mistakes people make choosing a duration
1. Counting days instead of nights. A “3-day” Komodo trip is two nights on the water, a late-morning start on day one and a midday finish on day three. That is roughly forty-eight hours, not seventy-two. Book according to the nights.
2. Flying in on the morning of departure. The boat leaves Labuan Bajo at around 10:00. A delayed Denpasar flight — a one to one-and-a-half hour hop that is frequently rescheduled — means you watch it leave. Arrive the night before.
3. Buying nights instead of the right season. Six nights in February in a monsoon swell will be a worse trip than three nights in May. April to June and September to November are the calmest windows; July and August have good visibility but wind in the open channels; December to March is the roughest, and also the manta peak.
4. Assuming longer means more of the same. It does not. Nights four and five change the type of stop — sheltered reefs and a limestone cave at four, cold southern current-swept sites at five. If you dislike current, more nights is not automatically more value.

How many days do you need in Komodo National Park?

How many days should I stay in Labuan Bajo, including hotels?
Your boat nights plus one hotel night before and one after. A 3D2N cruise therefore becomes a four-night Labuan Bajo stay. The night before protects you from a delayed inbound flight, which is the most common reason people miss a departure.
Is one day enough for Komodo?
For a day trip by speedboat you can see Padar in daylight, Pink Beach and either Komodo or Rinca. You cannot see Padar at sunrise and you will not sleep on the water. It is a taster, not a visit.
Is a week too long in Komodo?
Not if you dive. A five to eight-night charter reaching Manta Alley, Castle Rock and Crystal Rock fills a week easily. For non-divers, a week on the water is longer than most people want — four nights afloat and three ashore is a better split.
