Is 5 million rupiah enough for a Komodo boat trip?
It depends entirely on which question you are actually asking. If you mean “can I get a cabin on a proper liveaboard for five million rupiah” — yes, comfortably, with change. If you mean “is five million my total spend from home to home” — no, not unless you already live in Labuan Bajo.
This post splits the number honestly, because IDR 5,000,000 is one of the most searched budget figures for Komodo and almost nobody answers it with a line-by-line table.

So the headline is genuinely good news. Five million rupiah reaches the tier of boat where every cabin has its own bathroom, its own balcony and air conditioning, on a 30-metre phinisi carrying a maximum of 24 guests. That is not the bottom of the market; plenty of boats charging the same money put 32–35 guests on board and send everyone to a shared bathroom.
What five million does not cover
Here is where budgets break. The berth is the visible cost; the invisible ones are the park, the flight and the night before.

For an Indonesian traveller the same trip is meaningfully cheaper: the park entry drops from Rp 250,000 to Rp 50,000 on a weekday, and domestic flight pricing is usually kinder. That is a real difference of roughly IDR 200,000 per person on the fee line alone.
How to stretch five million without buying a worse boat
- Travel in the shoulder months. April to June and September to November give the calmest seas and the best visibility of the year, and they are not peak-priced the way July, August and the New Year window are.
- Take the weekday park entry if you are Indonesian. Rp 50,000 against Rp 75,000 is small per head and adds up for a family of five.
- Share a Family cabin. Aura Suci has two cabins built for four guests. Four friends in one cabin is a very different per-person maths from four friends in two Master cabins.
- Fly in the day before, not the morning of. A missed connection on departure morning costs the whole berth, which is the most expensive way to save IDR 400,000.
- Do not chase the very bottom of the market. The gap between a IDR 3,200,000 berth and a IDR 4,750,000 berth is one bathroom, ten fewer people and a faster hull. Over three days that gap is where the trip is either good or merely survived.
And if your budget is genuinely fixed at five million all-in?
Then the honest recommendation is a 2D1N overnight rather than a 3D2N, or a day tour plus two nights in Labuan Bajo. A 2D1N still reaches Padar, Pink Beach and Manta Point on the standard route and leaves enough of the budget for the flight. It is a shorter trip, not a worse one — and it is a far better outcome than booking a three-day berth you cannot pay the park fee on.

For a foreign visitor, yes — PP No. 36/2024 sets Rp 250,000 per person per visit and includes trekking, wildlife observation and snorkelling. Higher figures you see quoted, like Rp 650,000 or Rp 900,000, are bundles that add regional levies and ranger services on top.
Do I pay the park fee to the boat or at the park?
Almost always through the boat, collected before or during the trip, because the paperwork is handled per vessel. Ask for the breakdown in writing so you can see the national park component separately from any service charge.
Is a cheaper boat dangerous?
Price is not a safety rating, but it does correlate with equipment. Ask any operator, at any price, to confirm liferafts, ring buoys, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, radio and AIS on board. Aura Suci carries all of those plus Garmin GPS and compass.
