Ready to explore Komodo? My recent Shared Komodo liveaboard from Labuan Bajo was an unforgettable experience. We booked a Superior cabin on the Leticia Phinisi, costing Rp 9,500,000 per cabin. For those interested, Deluxe cabins are Rp 12,000,000, Master Main Deck at Rp 14,000,000, and the Tangkuban Parahu Master Suite at Rp 15,000,000 per cabin. If you prefer exclusivity, private yacht charters begin at Rp 35,000,000 per night. We chose the shared option, departing on a Friday – open trips leave every Monday and Friday year-round from Labuan Bajo. The 3D2N itinerary was packed. We paid a harbour fee of IDR 25,000 per person and ranger fees separately.
Island Hopping and Wildlife Encounters
Our first morning started early with a hike to Padar Island for an incredible sunrise viewpoint. The ranger fee for Padar Island trekking was IDR 150,000, shared amongst our group. Later, we trekked with licensed rangers to see the famous Komodo dragons, another essential part of the experience. The rangers were knowledgeable and ensured our safety while giving us fascinating insights into these magnificent creatures. We spent an afternoon snorkeling at Pink Beach, the vibrant coral and marine life were stunning. Another highlight was Manta Point, where we had the incredible opportunity to swim alongside majestic manta rays. The water clarity was excellent, making for perfect viewing conditions. We also visited the unique Taka Makassar sandbank, a sliver of white sand in the middle of the ocean, perfect for photos.
Sunset Views and Practicalities
Evenings were just as memorable. We witnessed a spectacular sunset at Kalong Island, watching thousands of flying foxes emerge from the mangroves and soar across the sky. It’s a truly mesmerizing sight. Our trip was in October, which falls within the April to November period, known for the calmest seas and best underwater visibility, and I can attest to that. The conditions throughout were ideal for all our activities, especially the snorkeling and diving opportunities. The crew on the Leticia Phinisi were fantastic, ensuring our comfort and safety throughout the journey. The experience of waking up to new islands and spending days exploring was incredibly rewarding. This shared liveaboard is a fantastic way to see the best of Komodo National Park without the higher cost of a private charter, offering a balance of adventure and relaxation.
For arrangements, a specialist offering Labuan Bajo trip can coordinate this end to end.
