Why boats go to dry dock in these months, and why that is good news

Hull work, engine servicing, repainting, refitting cabins and replacing safety equipment all have to happen at some point in the year, and the sensible point is the lowest-demand window. That is why a boat that is unavailable in February is often a boat being looked after properly.
It also means the boat you sail in May has typically been through a maintenance cycle a few months earlier. When you are choosing between vessels, asking when a boat last came out of dry dock is a more revealing question than most of the ones people ask.
What a weather-dependent schedule looks like in practice
Not cancellation — adaptation. In monsoon months a crew will typically:

Should you book a monsoon trip at all?
It depends on one thing: whether your dates can move. If they can, the monsoon months offer the cheapest berths of the year, the emptiest anchorages and the peak of manta season, and the downside is an inconvenience. If your dates are welded to international flights with no slack, you are buying a risk you cannot absorb, and the shoulder months — April to June, September to November — give calmer seas and the best visibility of the year anyway.
